ABOUT THE ARCHIVE
Curiosity, with
context.
Solvaretique is an independent English-language portal about casino history for adult readers, with a special focus on Finland.
Why this archive exists
A casino can be studied as a building, an employer, a technology platform, a cultural image and a legal institution. These perspectives make the history richer than a list of famous tables or venues.
Our editorial scope
We cover the first gaming houses, influential and vanished casinos, gaming machines, changing rules, interior design, service, security and regulation. We describe these subjects historically. We do not provide gambling services, deposits, betting links or operator recommendations.
How we use sources
Dated claims are supported with links to institutional sources where practical: venue histories, museum collections, annual reports and regulators. “First” and “oldest” claims often depend on definitions, so we explain the institution behind a claim rather than treating a slogan as the entire record.
Finland and changing rules
Finland’s regulatory transition makes current guidance time-sensitive. Our Finland article is dated and links directly to the National Police Board. Readers should check official sources for the latest legal position. We welcome corrections at editorial@solvaretique.com
Reading experience
We design the archive for desktop and mobile reading, with clear navigation, keyboard access and reduced-motion support. Articles include structured headings, concise summaries and direct links to relevant sources.
Adult readers only
The site uses an 18+ entry notice because the topic concerns gambling. If gambling is causing harm, our Responsible Gaming page points to independent help in Finland.
